Hey I am new here, new to RC crawlers, used to have a couple 1:1 crawlers, I just got a AX10, mostly stuck, has Novak engine, looking at ordering a TCS Eclipse chassis and bent links, eventually i would like to do 4 wheel steer or dig. but not for now. I also got a B4 buggy in the deal, got it running today, its alot of fun, but will probably use the ESC and servo for the crawler. anyway, I have b...

The same Tuffone that some of you already know. I dont make a lot of comps due to work and distance, but the crawling spirit is still within my blood. I live down in the Lawton area, which is in SW OK for those that have never been west of I35. There are rocks down here, and we I hope to see some changes so that we could all do some buisness down this way. Lets Meet In The Middle.

My new toys
I have not made it to the comps in the last few months so i needed a RC fix.....
I bought a slightly used Aquacraft Mini Rio
It can hit about 15-20MPh (I think) and the kids love it.

Today I went out and got a Super Cub. It is just a starter plane. I took it out a few minutes ago just before dark. Take off was great. About two minutes of the flight was great. Then..... Somebody put a tree up right in front of it and forgot to move it out of my way.
After about 15 minutes I got it out of the top of the tree with little to no damage. Hand launched it and had a great flight. Then another horrid landing but this time I was actually trying to land it so it was on the ground at least. About 4 tries later I finally landed it on its wheels. It has a Lipo battery with a brushed motor. The only controls it has are the ones on the tail (none on the main wing) so it is easier to learn to fly.

I got that one because I finally got rid of that T-Max as a trade in for a (never flown) P-51 with all of its goodies. It is a much more advanced plane and will take me a while to get good enough to try to fly it. This one is running a brushless motor with a lipo, full controls, with a 4 channel radio. With the wing on the bottom and the 4th channel on the main wings, it can go much faster and do all kinds of stunts.

Nice we need to go fly sometime. I got the nimh version of the super cub, and I have a .80 sized cub that's in project state right now.

Re: My new toys
I don't know that I would trust me enough to fly at the same time as myself yet. I have one battery through this and several crashes. If you are off I plan on flying tomorrow. I flew today in a field that is right next to my appartment. There is a dead end road and a pretty open field. A few trees but I learned quickly to stay away from them and had a fun flight after that.

Re: My new toys
Greg,
How is the Super Cub holding up? Shaun, weigh in on this also. I've looking at getting a starter plane. Some people say the Cub and some say even the PZ P-51. I have a Dx6i so, the PZ P-51 would work in the BNF versoin. What do you guys think? Or, any other suggestions?

Re: My new toys
I like the super cub so far. I have had a few less than perfect landings and it is still in one piece. Only thing I have broke was one of the struts under the wing. Cost me $3 for a new one. I have even had it upside down a few times. It is tough to do but if you are high enough it can be done. I feel like I have learned a lot from it.

Good plane to start out with, The PZ P-51 is kinda hard to fly if your just starting out, if you can handle it though, they are awesome, and really smooth.

Re: My new toys
I found this out n the www.
Would a rank beginner achieve success with this plane as their primary trainer? I would doubt it - and ParkZone recommends against it. But if the trainee has had some previous 'stick-time', a little help, and would keep the plane on the low rates, I believe they would be satisfied. The most dangerous part of the entire flight is the launch - and if the pilot doesn't overcontrol, the P-51 can climb in a very stable fashon. There weren't any self-correcting aspects to this airframe, so some previous experience and/or simulator training and working with an instructor is highly recommended. ParkZone's sister brand, HobbyZone, have a great lineup of beginner models intended to come before the less forgiving, more capable models of the ParkZone models.

Re: My new toys
If you want, I could sell you my cub with all of it's goodies. I think I want to step up to the next level. It has about a dozen or so flights on it. One small chip in the wing and a scrach on the rudder. Neither of which effect flight at all. Let me know and we will meet up so you can fly it and check it out.

Re: My new toys
I'm in! I just need to decide what I want to do (still in the air about the pz p-51 or SC). I came across wattflyer.com. It's an all electric flight forum. Cool super cub mods. Greg you should check it out, you may want to get floats for yours
. When I was out at the gluedobbers on Saturday, they are all about nitro, but I think for a beginner like me, foamies and electric are a good start and cheap too.
I got a CX3 heli from a guy on rccrawler. I binded it to my new dx6i. Did ok for a few minutes then noze dived into the grass, training gear probably saved me from a major repair. Just one blade was chipped. I'll be visiting hobby town tomorrow

Re: My new toys
Start simple. SC is level 1. Just adding the floats takes to to 3. They are a stock add on as is the drop rig and a few other things. The cub is great for what I think are the two hardest parts of flying. Take off and landing. It is not made to do all the tricks and stuff that the big boys at gluedobbers were doing. But if you ask them I would bet that a large bunch would say they started with a SC or something just like it. Get anything you are comfortable with but I can say that I do really enjoy the cub and am glad I started there. From what I understand, the wing being on top helps learning a lot because you can fly a lot slower when you need to like landing. I think I want to pick up an Apprentice now. Almost the same thing as the cub but it adds alerions.
Another thing about the flying slow bit, brain training!!! It seems simple but all of the controls are backwards 50% of the time. When you are coming at your self right is left and such. In a rc car it is not a big deal but in the air, it only takes a split second to start loosing altitude and turn your plane into a lawn dart. Lol.
I hope that reads ok. I have not fallen asleep yet tonight and it is 6:00 am.
been a long night.

Re: My new toys
Well, I was standing in HobbyTown today and was going to talk to Shaun, but some guy kept talking his ear off. Sorry Shaun, that guy looked like he wouldn't ever shut up lol. I was going to talk to you about all this, but Zach helped me with the Heli parts I needed and then I asked him some questions on the Apprentice. Dad was with me and we were looking at the Apprenitce. I had money in my pocket impulse syndrome and bought the Apprentice. I know I skipped a step buy getting a trainer with alerions, but hopefully it will work out. I have a dx6i so I think with it I can progam the rudder and alerions together to help with training, i'll need to read up. I just hope Greg isn't mad at me for not buying his SC? Impulse syndrome is tough to tackle
